Culture & Religion
Religion is important in the States and is really and fully part of the culture, but in a decentralized manner. Lots of Churches of different obediences exist and could be considered as protestant. To participate to a Church is quite common and nearly 2/3 of Americans consider Religion as very important which is quite unusual in Western world. It finds its roots in the first waves of immigration with English and German settlers in search of religious freedom within a community of like-minded members.
Nowadays, the Churches are still an important component of the American social life, in what has become a very individualistic economic system. It is a key element in order to have a social life and to experience solidarity in an extremely competitive environment and to develop and consolidate a social network.
About 15 % of Americans are non affiliated, agnostic, atheist or humanist.
