Kuala Lumpur is a compact city and very easy to get around with numerous transport options for every kind of traveller. Just be careful of rush hour!
It is possible to cycle around Kuala Lumpur. Bikes can be rented from KL By Cycle located in the underground mall, across from KL City Gallery. They are also available in Titiwangsa Lake Gardens.
Local buses run throughout the city and their destinations are clearly displayed. Kuala Lumpur also has a free city bus with 4 circular routes around the city. The GO-KL Free City Bus stops at KLCC, KL Tower, KL Sentral, the National Museum and Merdeka Square. These buses run regularly from 06:00 to 23:00 during the weekdays and from 07:00 at the weekend.
Car rental is certainly possible in Kuala Lumpur but driving here can be complicated with confusing road signs and tedious one-way systems. It is better to take local transport or hail a taxi.
By Monorail and Light Rail Transit (LRT)
Kuala Lumpur has an excellent network of local transport with its monorail and LRT lines to get around the city. If staying for more than a couple of days, it is recommended to purchase a MyRapidcard which is valid on the monorail, LRT and buses. It costs RM20 and includes RM5 credit.
The easiest way to use the taxis in Kuala Lumpur is to download a taxi app such as Grab, Easy Taxi or Uber. This way you will be able to choose your destination using an online map and know the exact fare before booking.
