Things to do

Looking for things to do in Ho Chi Minh City? Check out these popular sights and attractions.  You can also post your own favourite things to do in Ho Chi Minh.

  • Cu Chi Tunnels
    Cu Chi Tunnels
If there’s time to do only one thing in Ho Chi Minh City, make sure it’s the Cu Chi Tunnels. They provide a fascinating insight into the Vietnam War and how the Vietnamese worked together to outwit the Americans. The contraptions used to injure and hurt the US Army are particularly savage and gruesome, but the intelligence and planning the Vietnamese executed, with so little weapons compared to the USA, is ingenious. There’s opportunities to enter the tunnels if you wish; but they’re not for the claustrophobic. These tunnels have even been widened so foreigners can fit in them; they were originally a lot smaller!
    Get There
It is possible to make your own way here, around 70km from the city centre. The address is Đường tỉnh lộ 15, Phú Hiệp, Phú Mỹ Hưng, Củ Chi. It’s possible to hire a taxi or motorbike ride via Grab. However, almost everyone goes with a tour and this is by far the easiest way. There are plenty of excellent companies to choose from, that will give a day tour of the tunnels: a visit without a guide just isn’t as good. Tours cost around 20 GBP / 20 USD and upwards.

  • Central Post Office
    Central Post Office
Ho Chi Minh’s central post office is unlike any other. The architecture is an absolute delight inside and as it has been largely untouched since being erected in the late 19th century. One can feel they’re stepping back in time. When entering into what feels like a mini railway station, you cannot miss the towering portrait of Ho Chi Minh himself, looking down on you from above. Look at the original phone booths and feel free to post something here if desired: The post office is in full working order.
    Get There
If staying in the District 1 City Centre, it is very easy to walk to the Central Post Office located at 2 Công xã Paris Bến Nghé Quận 1. It is located opposite the famous Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica at plaza Cong Xa Paris and generally this is a great area to explore and see beautiful architecture from the French era. If you did not feel like walking, hop on a moto booked via the Grab app.

  • War Remnants Museum
    War Remnants Museum
Not for the faint-hearted and very much upfront, the War Remnants Museum houses hundreds of photos of the terrible things that happened during the Vietnam War. This is the truth and shows so much more than what the movies and newspapers have. It’s a tough visit but provides invaluable insight and brings upon an understanding of just how terrible the war really was here.
    Get There
The War Remnants Museum is very easy to access from the city centre. One can walk there or book a ride on a moto using the Grab app. The specific address is 28 Vo Van Tan in District 3. It’s just a few blocks away from Reunification Palace, which is worth a look at too, even if just peeking through the gates to see it.
