Safety

Backpackers tips and advice for safety in Bangkok.  Find out about travelling safely in Bangkok.

Bangkok is a safe city and incidents of violence against tourists are very rare. However, there are known cases of well-polished scams to tourists, especially with taxis, so be careful and refuse any taxi driver who quotes a flat fare (it’s usually a very expensive fare). Be sure to request for the taxi meter to be turned on – just say, ‘Meter, kha/khap’.

Other than petty and highly avoidable scams you’ll most likely enjoy a scam-free visit to Bangkok! Also, don’t forget look in both directions before crossing any street (or sidewalk) as Bangkok streets are extremely hectic.
