Ho Chi Minh City, also informally known by its former name ‘Saigon’, is a bustling, up-and-coming hub of activity full of so much history, culture and historical significance. Previously the former capital of the Republic of Vietnam, it has been constantly growing and developing since the Vietnam War, with dazzling skyscrapers and fancy bars popping up to make this a very hip and happening centre.

Location and Environment

Located in southeast Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh is Vietnam’s largest commercial city. It’s the perfect place to start or finish your motorcycle tour of the country, eat endless bowls of pho and discover the trendy side of Vietnam with its glitzy bars. The Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s waterworld of villages, is just south of here and heading north, you can visit the famous sites of Hoian, Hanoi and Sapa. The look and feel of this city is very much European; dating back to the period of French colonial rule.

Reasons to Visit

Extra special reasons to visit Ho Chi Minh City are to explore the intricate French architecture, face the realities of war in the museums, get lost in the bustling markets, sip a cocktail sky-high in the bars, then top off the evening by drinking the freshly brewed street beer after slurping up delicious street food.
